Introduction

My name is Tom O'Sullivan and I am a senior at UML, I will obtain my BSIT after completing three more courses this summer semester.  I apologize to everyone for the late start, but I enrolled in this class yesterday.  So rather than watch the Bruins tonight,  I am going to try to catch up on the coursework form the first week and get to know everyone a little bit.  I work in the commercial construction industry.  I am currently a project manager on a project for the Corps of Engineers at Fort Dix, New Jersey.  We are building a Vehicle Maintenance Facility and a 55,000 square foot warehouse with a 39 acre asphalt parking lot and for a little over 25 million you can all of this for your own.  I am married to a wonderful woman named Rebecca and I have four amazing daughters named Megahn (8), Shannon (6), Molly (5), and Skylor (2).  In my spare time I enjoy lifting weights and playing with the girls.  I look forward to interacting with all of you over the course of the semester.  I am sure we will have a lot of fun, how could we not, we are all bloggers now...

Impact of Internet on Society

The impact of the internet on society could be summed up in one word HUGE, but since I am writing a blog, I will see if I can stretch it into a little bit more for your reading pleasure.  The internet is almost to the point where it is taken for granted and thought of something that is always going to be available.  Almost everything that runs an urban area in America is dependent on the internet.  Think of the inconvience you feel when you cannot get your internet connection to work on your computer or when you do not have phone service.  Now think about about if the internet and networked controls crashed which control the electrical power grid, the sewage waste treatment plant, transactions at your bank, and the ordering system for your grocery store.  This could create a really drastic event which society would have to deal with.  In today's age we still have plenty of people who lived in our society without internet and they know what to do in that environment, but if there were no internet available in 20 years what will the twenty year olds of today do with that situation?  They would not be able to google the solution to the problem...
